How to Join the Outsourced Ombuds and Consultant Directory

Connecting IOA Members with Organizations In Need

This searchable database connects IOA members who provide outsourced (external) ombuds services and consulting with organizations seeking the services they offer. Directory members may offer ombuds services on a contractual basis, as well as additional services such as working with existing ombuds programs to manage case overflow, helping with data analysis and report writing, conducting ombuds office audits, and consulting on challenging cases.

Any IOA member who practices to IOA Standards of Practice & Code of Ethics is eligible to participate in the OOD for an annual fee of $250 USD. Additional members from the same firm will be able to join the directory at a discounted rate of $175 USD. Members will need to contact the IOA office at [email protected] for a discount code to be listed in the directory at this lower rate. Please note that this discount only applies to new listings. Therefore, those members from the same firm who are already listed in the directory are not eligible.

As a part of this process, IOA has made several updates to our member database and added several new profile fields. Member profile data is an important source of information for the association and these updates help us better define the work that we all do as Ombuds. We encourage you to regularly review and update your member profile.

Listing Criteria for Service Providers

  • Be a current member of IOA 
  • Provide true and accurate information that can be verified. IOA has the right to deny, suspend or terminate the provider’s services from the Outsourced Ombuds and Consultant Directory if it discovers inaccurate information.
  • Provide and list services that will support ombuds and their respective organizations in adhering to the IOA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
  • Refrain from offering training services that compete or conflict with IOA Foundations
  • Maintain adequate professional liability insurance

Services Listed in the Outsourced Ombuds and Consultant Directory Can Include

  • Ombuds services for companies, educational institutions, and other organizations on a contract and/or temporary basis
  • Conference Ombuds
  • Support when hiring an ombuds or ombuds office support staff
  • Consulting on difficult cases
  • Building ombuds office awareness/communication strategies
  • Designing and/or managing an ombuds program
  • Establishing an ombuds office case management system, policies, and practices
  • Developing surveys and/or assessments, analyzing feedback, and creating reports
  • Evaluating existing ombuds programs
  • Writing annual reports
  • Assisting existing ombuds team to work directly with visitors (handling case overflow)
  • Creating, facilitating, and delivering topical training, workshops, and or other types of dialogue spaces not offered by IOA
  • Providing ombuds leadership, coaching, mediation, or other forms of conflict resolution consulting services
